![]() My positive experience at their Gatwick North Terminal lounge had brought me back for more! I followed the signs straight there and checked in. They always seem to have the right number of lanes open whenever I travel, and they must be commended for this as I have never had such pleasant experiences elsewhere in the world!Ī few days before my flight, I had booked lounge access with No.1 Traveller, whose new BHX lounge had opened in late 2012. ![]() One thing that I usually find BHX excels at on my visits is its security checkpoint - today was no different, and I was through in under 3 minutes. In no time, I was saying goodbye to my Dad and off through security upstairs. At 12:20, I went back over and found check-in was now indeed open for my flight.Ĭheck in was quick and efficient, as I'd already checked in online and had a seat reservation and pre-paid luggage. This was no problem as I and my Dad, who had accompanied me, headed over to Costa Coffee and chilled out for a while with a Coffee and a snack. After some tea and breakfast I was out of the house and walking to my local train station to catch the train to Birmingham International, which was free as I now work for a train operating company that operates some of the trains there! Every little helps.Īs the trains aren't that frequent on my line, I actually arrived at BHX 40 minutes before check-in for my flight opened. With a leisurely departure time of 14:50, I was in no hurry to get up that morning. To: Dublin Airport Terminal 2 ( DUB/EIDW) Join me now on Part 1 of my North America trip! So I lost a 736 and a 752, but gained the MD-90 back! I'd say that still looks okay to me.Īfter months of waiting, it was time to depart on this massive, exciting, adventure. The WestJet 737-600 became a 737-800, the Delta 757 became a McDonnell Douglas MD-90, and the Delta McDonnell Douglas MD-90 became a Boeing 737-800. Needless to say, this was promising to be a very exciting trip full of new airports and (for me) rare aircraft types that I probably won't get much of a chance to fly! Of course, in the months leading up to the flights there were a few schedule and aircraft changes. So my final itinerary looked a little like this īHX- DUB- AMS- YUL- YYZ- MSP- DCA- DTW- BOS- DTW- LHR Ryanair, for the same date and flight time, wanted in excess of £80! As I would be taking checked luggage on all the other flights, Aer Lingus won my business as it was a mere £40 one way for the flight, a seat reservation, and a checked bag. To get to Dublin from my home base of BHX, I had a choice of Aer Lingus and Ryanair. YYZ- MSP (Delta Connection CRJ-200, a new type for my log)ĭCA- DTW (Delta McDonnell Douglas MD-88, a new type for my log)ĭTW- BOS (Delta McDonnell Douglas MD-90, a new type for my log) I too am part of Flying Blue, but don't fly enough to make it worthwhile! Of course, cost played a factor, but so did interesting aircraft and routings! We wouldn't be aviation enthusiasts if we didn't find the most interesting combinations! Based on price and aircraft, Delta Air Lines won our business, helped by the fact my friend is Flying Blue Silver. We then had to figure out a) how to get to Dublin, and b) how to get between Toronto, Washington and Boston. YUL- YYZ (WestJet Boeing 737-600, a new type for my log)īOS- DTW (Delta McDonnell Douglas MD-88, a new type for my log)ĭTW- LHR (Delta Boeing 767-400ER, a new type for my log) My itinerary, booked through the KLM website and featuring several codeshares, looked like this ĪMS- YUL (KLM McDonnell Douglas MD-11, a new type for my log) ![]() Our itineraries differed a little, as he was scheduled to return from Boston on the 8th May, but I wanted an extra day there so elected to return on the 9th May, via Detroit for the same price! He promptly booked and, following my payday, I did too. that would give us between 2 and 3 days in each city. We investigated our options and looked at a 9-10 day trip to North America at the start of May, including an additional stop in Washington D.C. The idea was to catch the soon-to-be-retired McDonnell Douglas MD-11, and he had found some incredibly cheap fares via KLM routing out from Dublin to Toronto, and returning from Boston to London's Heathrow Airport for a mere £260. In late 2012, a friend approached me with an idea for a trip to North America, specifically Toronto in Canada, and Boston in America.
